Diss on the Angles Way

January 24, 2012

The Angles Way is one of 7 long distance walks in Norfolk, but importantly it the ones that runs alongside the River Waveney for much of its route, although technically it begins in Thetford and ends in Great Yarmouth.

Special too is that it traverses both the Norfolk and Suffolk borders (which makes it complicated for the local authorities) but this is a Fish sculpture in the river at Becclescharming irrelevance to the walker!  The views across the Waveney Valley can be viewed from both north and south – ideal.

To promote this walk better and also to manage it in a sensitive way the Friends of Angles Way has been created……….this is a loose group of local walkers/volunteers who will keep and eye on a particular stretch of the walk to ensure stiles, gates etc are in good order, but also to ensure signage is correct and easy to use as well as creating tourism opportunities along the route.  Be it places to a cuppa or overnight stay or points of interest along the way, or close by etc.

There will be no limit to the number of Friends, – the purpose is to  create a social group too.

I will update this page as I get additional information, but any comments, links or suggestions please let me know…….

The EDP published an article, which should hopefully generate some interest.

Like the idea of the Friends of Anglia Way, but how do I make contact / know what’s going on?

Anyone wishing to learn more about how they can help, email me your contact details and I will get the Trails Officer at Norfolk County County to get in touch with you.
Sarah Cureton looks after the southern area trails, – these include the Boudicca & Peddars Way, which also have volunteer schemes.
It will be up to the volunteer group, but would be nice to see a Facebook (or similar) page eventually being created to keep everyone in touch and also to inform the users…..
