The Town Council have voted in favour of allowing the Cricket Club to erect a fence all around the meadow.
Since then I have received many emails and telephone calls opposing it.

More than 400 signatures on a petition against this fence, a string of letters against it in the Diss Express (which also ran an online poll, finding an overwhelming majority against), widespread local knowledge that the extent of meadow problems have been exaggerated, a nonsenical proposal that with a gate open (at least for all daylight hours) littering etc. will stop ……….. What more evidence is needed to show this fencing proposal is wrong, detrimental to the character of Diss and unwanted by most residents? The town council have not properly consulted about this – the initial public discussion meeting was held months after their Amenities Committee had resolved to apply for planning permission on behalf of the cricket club (if resources allowed)!

A further update is that the Town Council decided on 1st October that although they still think fencing is the right thing to do, they would review again the area to be fenced. The Amenities and Services Committee can do this without reference to the main Council.

Diss Town Council have just agreed to make the meadow a dog-exclusion area. Dogs are not going to be allowed off the footpath that goes across the north side.
