Entrance/access to Tesco in Diss

The entrance to Tesco in Diss

I comment at every available moment about the poorly designed access to the Tesco store.  It doesnt really matter whether you are driving, cycling or walking – it is neither safe nor convenient.

There are barriers on the corners stopping pedestrians from using their “preferred” route at the mini-roundabout, but these are forever being hit by turning traffic too – so have they become crash barriers?

When the scheme was first designed cyclists were not forgotten either, but it is only now that the road/pavement markings are being laid – so watch out for cyclists who will be trying to navigate the junction too.

Even our poorly sighted and disabled users have a hard time at this junction.  The tactile paving is also where pavements have been lowered for cyclists and pram pushers.  At one point the pavement is only about a metre wide by the barrier.  (Currently a red plastic replacement, for the second time).

Why can’t the Tesco designers be made to visit a site before deciding on the scheme and applying for permissions?  Surely it is in their interest to have an an access friendly store?  They designer probably just has a book of store designs and if the footprint matches that’s what you get.  Theres no problem with the store…………..generally (unlike Sheringham etc) we quite like Tesco in Diss – but we dont like the dangerous access………….PLEASE TESCO you could change it!
