Residents have recently experienced problems accessing their driveways because of parked cars narrowing the road. Through traffic has also experienced problems passing.
The problem of the verge being taken up with parked cars has been addressed by the placing of hazard markers.
For those that dont know the area, Diss High School’s main vehicular entrance is also on Walcot Road.
The County Planning & Transportation department needs to consult before taking a decision concerning further traffic calming measures (adding yellow lines for example.) It has been officially added to the 2009/10 Traffic Management Programme, so it will be under discussion then.
There is lots of time to reflect and comment, and hopefully we will have some input from the students of the 6th Form Centre who are seen as being responsible for the problem. (Until recently they were allowed to park in the nearby Squash Club car park.)
Having said that, and as the residents know, none of the cars have been illegally parked. They are all very neatly parked along the road side. Like many places in Diss though, the width of the road was not designed with this amount of on-street parking.
The school buses create an additional hazard, but perhaps they could pick-up & drop-off elsewhere? Maybe a car sharing scheme could be organised?
Please post your views here so that a wider conversation can take place. This will be in addition to the official and more traditional routes of consultation. Send your own photos for inclusion showing the hazards, so we can all see what the problems are.
